Welcome to KRAKT Theatre!
Kelly Daniels and Ric Reid met on January 3, 2000 while doing A Streetcar Named Desire at Royal MTC. They fell in love, got married, and moved to Ontario where they have made their home ever since.
Ric has been acting across Canada and in the US for 40+ years. He has been nominated for 20+ plus acting awards over the course of his career and likens himself to the Susan Lucci of the Canadian theatre. He is a beloved ensemble member of The Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake and will be returning for his 17th Season as Watson in the new Sherlock Holmes mystery Sherlock Holmes and the Raven's Curse.
Kelly has acted, produced and directed theatre for the past 30 years. Most of the work she’s been fortunate to create has been self-produced. That just means she’s worked really hard for the past few decades…like many of us in this industry. She recently got a taste of full-time academic in a short-term contract with the University of Windsor, and she’s very happy to be back as a free-lance director/producer.
From 2006 to 2014, Kelly and Ric co-founded and ran a company called Lyndesfarne Theatre Projects. Nine years saw the company produce 25 productions, a Young Company, community outreach and professional development. They grew an audience of 135 beginning with their first production of Hughie, by Eugene O’Neill to audiences of 2000 in the last few years of operations. Kelly was awarded Niagara Entrepreneur of the Year (Tourism/2010) for her work with the company.
KRAKT happens to be comprised of the first letter in each of their family’s first names: Kelly, Ric, Aidan, Kalan and Tyler. When the boys heard they were starting up another project together and that they needed a company name, they suggested KRAKT. Kelly and Ric think it highly fitting.
